CURRENT PROJECT STATUS:

127th Street between Black Bob Road and the Pioneer Trail Middle School exit is open to traffic one lane in either direction.  This opens access to the school, Twilight Drive and the commercial entrance to Anderson Point.  Grading, sidewalk installation, electrical work and minor construction will continue on this portion of the project until completion.

The section of 127th Street between the school exit and Brougham will remain closed until the fall of this year.

127th Street between Mur-Len and Brougham is open to traffic one lane in either direction.

The construction on Black Bob Road is complete and the intersection has been opened to traffic.

PROJECT HISTORY:

The City of Olathe hired an engineering consultant, TranSystems, to design improvements on127th Street from Mur-Len to Black Bob. A two phase process was conducted to gather feedback from nearby residents, conduct analysis of existing conditions and proposed improvements, prepare final construction plans, and coordinate utility relocations. These two phases are complete and the project has moved into the third phase, which is construction.

The City of Olathe has hired O'Donnell and Sons Construction to re-build the roadway between Mur-Len and Black Bob from a two lane road to a four lane arterial divided by a median.  Work on this project will begin in February 2010 and will continue until the project is completed in early 2011.

Feedback during the public open-house meetings was critical!! Thank you to those who attended and shared feedback, ask questions of the project team, and learned about the process.

The first segment of 127th Street to be improved will be Mur-Len to Black Bob. Funding for improvements is currently proposed through the City’s Capital Improvements Program, and includes Federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and is scheduled for construction in 2010. Right-of-Way acquisition continues and will need to be completed before construction can begin. Design plans for future improvements on 127th Street from Black Bob to Pflumm are currently being developed with funding for construction budgeted in 2014. The City of Olathe will continue to evaluate funding alternative to accelerate this schedule and complete improvements of the 127th Street Corridor from Kansas City Road to Pflumm.
